What is Homeopathy
Medicine that listens to the whole person
Homeopathy is a system of natural medicine that has been in use for over 200 years. It works by stimulating the body's own healing intelligence — gently, safely, and without suppression.
"The highest ideal of cure is the rapid, gentle, and permanent restoration of health."
The founding principles
Homeopathy was developed in the late 18th century by German physician Samuel Hahnemann. Dissatisfied with the harsh medical practices of his time, he sought a gentler, more rational approach to healing. What he discovered became the foundation of homeopathic medicine.
01
Like cures like
A substance that causes symptoms in a healthy person can, in a highly diluted form, cure similar symptoms in a sick person. This is the law of similars — the cornerstone of homeopathic prescribing.
02
The minimum dose
Remedies are prepared through a process of serial dilution and succussion (vigorous shaking), which paradoxically increases their therapeutic potency while eliminating toxicity. The smallest effective dose is always used.
03
The whole person
Homeopathy treats the individual, not the disease. Physical symptoms, emotional patterns, mental states, and personal history are all considered when selecting a remedy. No two people receive the same treatment.
04
The vital force
Homeopathy recognises an innate healing intelligence within each person — what Hahnemann called the vital force. When this is disturbed, illness arises. Remedies work by restoring balance and stimulating the body's own capacity to heal.
What happens in a consultation
A homeopathic consultation is unlike most medical appointments. There is no rushing, no checklist, and no single symptom treated in isolation. Instead, we explore the full picture of your health — the physical, the emotional, and the constitutional.
Your homeopath will ask detailed questions about your symptoms: when they began, what makes them better or worse, how they feel, and what was happening in your life at the time. They will also ask about your sleep, your energy, your emotional life, and your personal history. From this rich picture, a single remedy is carefully selected — one that matches not just your symptoms, but you as a whole person.

Safe, gentle, and complementary
Homeopathic remedies are non-toxic, non-addictive, and free from side effects. They are safe for use during pregnancy, for newborns, and for the elderly. Homeopathy works beautifully alongside conventional medicine — it is not an either/or choice. Many people use homeopathy as a complement to their existing medical care, finding that it supports their overall wellbeing and resilience.
Homeopathy is not a replacement for emergency medical care or conventional treatment where it is clearly indicated. Your homeopath will always encourage open communication with your GP or specialist.
